The Center for Life at Providence  Provides Special Care for Mothers and Babies

For over 32 years, the Center for Life at Providence has provided obstetrical and gynecological care to women and children who need it the most. Our services and programs at the Center for Life truly follow Providence’s mission to give special attention to persons who are underserved and more vulnerable within our community. The team of board certified obstetrician-gynecologists and certified nurse-midwives serve over 15,000 patients a year, of which 1,500 are new obstetrical patients.

The Center accepts most major insurances as well as Maryland and DC Medicaid. This program covers prenatal care, hospitalization, labs, diagnostic services, and newborn hospital care.

CenteringPregnancy® Innovative Program for Improved Outcomes

In addition to affordable healthcare, the Center for Life offers an innovative pregnancy program. Established in 2007, the CenteringPregnancy Program is a group care model that allows patients to get involved in their own self-care and support one another. The groups, which consists of 10-12 women with similar due dates, meet ten times over the course of their pregnancy. The Center also hosts groups for teen mothers and groups that are conducted entirely in Spanish.

Each group is involved in monitoring mother and baby’s progress and they learn together about important topics, including:

  • Pregnancy process and what to expect
  • Healthy pregnancy guidelines
  • Good nutrition for mother and baby
  • Birthing issues and preparation for delivery
  • Newborn care and feeding guidelines
  • High Risk Centering

Teen Parenting Program

The Teen Parenting Program provides support to adolescents during pregnancy and for the first year of their child's life. The program's goal is to help the youth we serve make better choices and have improved outcomes in all areas of their lives. Clients are provided direct support, information, education, and referrals to other community resources. We seek to help clients make the transition from teens to parents in a supportive environment.
