Abbas Motazedi, MD, FACE
Medical Director and Endocrinologist
Dr. Abbas Motazedi is the Chief of Endocrinology and Medical Director of the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Providence Hospital. Dr. Motazedi has over 25 years of clinical and teaching experience in treating patients with diabetes. He is well known in the community for the treatment of patients with osteoporosis, thyroid disorders, hormone imbalances, and other endocrine abnormalities. Dr. Motazedi is board certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism, Nuclear Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Geriatric Medicine. He earned his degree in medicine from the National University of Iran, School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Georgetown University Medical Service at DC General Hospital. Dr. Motazedi completed a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at both the University of Michigan and Weill Cornell Medical College, and he is a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. His passion is helping patients and guiding them in making positive changes to improve their quality of life.
Marcy Oppenheimer, MD
Primary Care Physician/Diabetes Specialist
Dr. Marcy Oppenheimer is a family medicine primary care physician. She works to foster a compassionate, caring environment that focuses on healthy eating and preventive care. Dr. Oppenheimer enjoys helping patients make positive lifestyle changes and address concerns about health and overall wellness. She earned her degree in medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency in family medicine at Georgetown University Hospital/Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Oppenheimer's areas of interest include nutrition and overweight management, diabetes, health-based educational seminars, and preventive healthcare.
Andrea Ciccone Troutner, RD, LD, LDN, CDE
Diabetes Education Coordinator/Certified Diabetes Educator
Andrea Troutner is the Diabetes Education Coordinator and Certified Diabetes Educator for the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate. Andrea is also a registered dietitian, licensed dietitian in the District of Columbia, and licensed dietitian nutritionist in Maryland. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Institution Administration and satisfied the completion of the Dietetics Plan IV General Dietetic Program from the University of Maryland, College Park. She successfully completed an Approved Pre-professional Practice Program meeting The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Council on Education standards of quality with Marriott Food & Services Management Health Care Division. She was awarded Outstanding Dietitian of the Year 2013 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for her passion in both nutrition and diabetes education. Providence is proud to announce that Andrea Troutner has been honored with the Mary Lou Maras Diabetes Educator of the Year Award for 2015, given by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) for Capitol ADE-DC Virginia. This award recognizes an AADE member who has made special contributions to diabetes education in Washington, D.C.
Sumi Tohan, RDN, LDN
Sumi Tohan is an outpatient dietitian at Providence Hospital specializing in bariatric nutrition and diabetes education. She received her undergraduate Nutritional Sciences degree from the Pennsylvania State University, and completed her dietetic internship with the Virginia Department of Health with a concentration in community nutrition. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Science degree from Columbia University in Diabetes Education and Management. Her diverse work experience has strengthened her skills in public speaking, marketing, content writing, telecounseling, recipe development, and cooking demonstrations. Sumi has appeared on the local news several times to disseminate complex nutrition information into easy to understand concepts. She was most recently selected to represent the Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a state media spokesperson which will allow her to express her passion for wellness and fulfill her desire to empower others with nutrition knowledge.
