Free Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes Screenings and Education for the District of Columbia Residents
Providence Hospital partnered with The Joslin Diabetes Center to bring the community-based "On The Road" (OTR) diabetes informational and prevention program to DC residents under the Health Care Innovation Award (HCIA) grant from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.
This program offers free diabetes and pre-diabetes education and screenings at convenient District of Columbia locations, including community centers, faith-based organizations, health clinics, and other localities. During the two-hour sessions, people who have diabetes or pre-diabetes will learn how to make lifestyle changes that can minimize the associated health risks. Their families, friends, and caregivers are also invited to learn more about the management of this disease.
For more information about On The Road classes at a community-based center near you, or if you would like to learn about how to bring the program to your organization, please contact Felicia Hugee at 202-534-4294.
Nutrition counseling by Providence registered dietitians is also available on an inpatient and outpatient basis for diabetic care as well as any specialized diets. Download our Frequently Asked Questions fact sheet or call 202-269-7128 for more information.
