Providence Media Statement 11/12/14

Providence Hospital has been negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with the National Nurses United (NNU) union during the past several months. Although we had been making progress in a number of areas, the union decided to call a 24-hour strike Wednesday, November 12th at 7:00 AM to Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 AM.

While we are disappointed by the union’s decision, we have plans in place for this contingency.

Providence will remain open and continue to provide the quality of care our patients and the community deserve.  We continue to work to find a fair and equitable outcome in the best interest of our nurses, our patients and the organization’s mission, while ensuring the future viability of our hospital.

According to the NNU this strike is about Ebola. It would seem the NNU is more interested in furthering their national agenda than reaching an agreement through bargaining that is in the best interest of our nurses.

  • Providence Hospital is prepared for the identification and safe care of patients with highly communicable diseases, such as Ebola. In fact, our protocols were evaluated by the DC Department of Health and follow the strict guidelines established by CDC.
